As Terry said, i think you havent built your layshaft correctly as thats the only thing that could cause this. Is the e clip fitted? Or is the one way faulty ( you can test by removing the pulley and put one way back on the layshaft and turn both ways).

Out of curiosity did you have a roll bar fitted as well?
