Hi John, that is the front side of the slipper that is not used by the DB1 hence the machining.....it has nothing to do with the slipper shaft.
The shaft can break on the 4wd too as well as the DB1.
The normal reasons are worn bearings allowing too much movement, the shaft end adjustment is too tight to the propshaft, as well as loose screws on the top deck.....there are other reasons too and it is not uncommon although rare...it is nothing to do with the conversion though....if there is anything else please just ask
