I find it hard to be nice to people at the best of times... let alone children
But seriously, I think a mentoring system in conjunction with some kind of award scheme could work.
Maybe do a 'doubles' league where points between a 'Novice' and 'Expert' are combined for an overall score each month. (I appreciate this would take a little working out).
Either way- I completely understand the problem here and I'm in for helping out
