Yes if this spacer has worn too much it will stop you from being able to tighten the slipper up any more. You can improve the situation by using thicker AE slipper pads but when fitting these you may have to cut some of the edges down so that the pad fits the spur perfectly otherwise it will move the spur eccentrically and you will end up stripping the teeth. I just dremelled off the worn areas on my spacer and then used a 1/8th clutch bell shim either side and that protects the ends of the spacer.
