Are you putting a crazy motor in it?
Both my rally car (Tamiya TL01) and the Traxxas buggy I have been racing are of similar vintage
And the Traxxas survived the brushless and lipo injection... Although it did sharpen the 15 year old plastic gears super quick, so I changed to metal gears.
