Regarding cost, it will probably depend on where it is manufactured.
I think in principle, Andy makes a valid point that many RC manufactures sometimes use similar / the same manufactures in the far east - however, it's near impossible for the end consumer to know what is and isn't. Also, some of them don't.
Kyosho are a Japanese brand, so if they have some / many parts manufactured in Japen, then the costs here are significantly higher than China for example. This would be their choice, but it's potentially a gamble they take, as it forces up the kit price, and some potential customers would be put off by high prices. As an example, I believe this is a scenario that Yokomo have, and hence why their kits would be silly money were they to be available through the official UK distribution routes.
