ok, I'm gonna try to set it manually to 3.2v and see if that works. If it doesn't it will have to wait till we come back from the the hols. "crap" will have to tell my son we won't be bringing his car on hols 
that's bad form from SP to buy something new that needs to be flashed -like firmware update ?- before first use
