I also have one of these ESCs which I have fitted to an HPI Vorza, hooked up to a 2700kv EZRUN motor.

On Saturday I used it for the 1st time, running a 4s 65-130c nano-tech on dirt. I ran 3 packs through it, allowing plenty of time for cooling between runs and it seemed to perform faultlessly through the day, like you I couldn't really tell the difference between it and the HW150a XERUN (although I think there was a slight difference when I ran the 2 back-to-back on tarmac outside my house).

However, when cleaning the car today I noticed that the part of the top cover (which the cooling fan fits into) has slightly deformed from heat in the area where it fits around the 2 capacitors (between the +ve and -ve battery leads). I removed the cover and there doesn't appear to be any damage to anything electrical, the capacitors show no signs of burning or anything and the resin which makes the ESC waterproof appears unaffected.

Also I ran it on the bench today and it still seems to work perfectly (on every run yesterday I carried on driving until the ESC reduced the power to protect the LiPos). I don't think I experienced a thermal cut-out all day because every time it slowed down the cell voltage was 3.64v, and I set the low voltage cut-off to 3.4v, so it's reasonable to assume that the ESC detected less than 3.4v per cell under load and reduced the power. I also had the overheat protection enabled.

Has this happened on any of your 3 SC8s?
