As suggested I re-checked the steering assembly and found most of the slop was being caused by a lot of play in the carbon steering rack.

I took it all to pieces and reassembled, but no improvement.

I then disassembled and filed about 1mm from the bottom of each steering bushing and reassembled as shown. There is now a massive improvement and nowhere near the amount of play there was.
