in answer to the original question, which seems to have been missed by all the talk of grip levels.

If you put the spur on the left side like a B4 (if you're looking at the front) in RM3 setup you won't need to swap the motor direction. MM4 like the X6.

3 gear setups need the spur on the left. 4 gear setups need it on the right. This is the whole point of being able to swap the spur from left to right to remove the need to reverse the motor direction. The motor is still going to spin the same way regardless.
