A bigger spur gear will give you more acceleration and a lower top speed and is similar to changing to a smaller pinion.

Changing by two teeth on the spur gear will have a much smaller effect on performance over changing by the same number of teeth on a pinion.


By changing spur and pinion sizes you can also move the motor back and forth, changing the weight distribution in the car.
