My son is 6 years and 2 months old, has already done 4 regional club races (and a lot of practice sessions) We live in Belgium.
Last weekend he finished third in the rookie class out of 6 drivers. His laptimes are still inconsistent, but from the other side, his fastest laps were only 5 sec slower than mine(I did 25sec laps, he 29secs) He currently drives an FS2 with an orion 8.5 motor and 45c lipos.
He was under 3 when I first bought him a Mini-Z monster for indoors. At 4 I gave him a losi mini-t, soon followed by an ansmann mad rat and quickly after that my old RB5 and with that car I took him to the local dirt track. The beginning however was really difficult(transmitters too big for his tiny hands, running into everything) He then started to drive in my backyard(almost everyday) I never let him drive into the wild - I always made some sort of track(sometimes just with buckets). At that point he had the basics you know(left seemed right when you are running towards you ;-) I bought him a new transmitter(spektrum DX3C and I modified the throttle trigger a bit too suit his little hands). At the buggytrack It was still a little difficult(2WD) with his point and shoot style so I gave him a lazer 4WD. From that point on he made huge progress. At my local dirt track with superjumps he currently drives an FS with a 7.5 orion and 45C batteries. I am a former national champion nitro onroad(only driving buggy since 2 years, I am currently ranked 5th in our Nationals). I expect my son, if he continues(you never know with young children, interest may vary fast) to be better than me within the next three years.
