First of all, check that the car rolls freely when you have the motor out of the car. You don't want any binding in the bearings etc., and you need to make sure that the pinion/spur mesh is not too tight either.
If the car rolls freely, gear down a little. So a smaller pinion or a larger spur gear.
Ventilation helps too. if the body has a slot that you can cut out, cut it - although if you are racing at a BRCA meeting you need to check the rules about the size of the holes you can cut.
