Going to 4.5-5.0 in't going to make it run any cooler, although those motors are known to be happy running at quite high temperatures. If the motor is going soft by the end of the race then it will be too hot.
I'd gear it for performance, one tooth at a time until you get nice balance between punch off the corners and top end. And fast laptimes too!
For comparison I'm running about 5.5:1 with a SP V3 13.5 on a small carpet track.
