The time you'd need to spend cleaning the gun out ways any quickness of putting it on, also as it's masking which is in effect just going to get pulled off and binned there seems no point in making it nice or nicer than a brush will do it. If you use a fairly decent soft brush you get no problems, if you're trying to do it with some extra cheap course stiff brush you'll probably not think it's the best method.
