I'm not sure, but I think plates with glass fibres/FRP or aluminium are worth trying as well. I recall being told by Fibre-Lyte that the lesser rigidity of glass layers (in their CSC, Carbon Silica Carbon?) plates is compensated by a slightly better impact strength. Alu might also be worth a try because it's not as brittle as carbon.
Anyway, I was surprised by how lightweight the whole steering rack is built, the steering plate in particular. So how often/easily is it broken?
