I had a similar issue with my speedo when i connected the wires round the wrong way
Anyway we cut the wires to the capacitor and the speedo worked fine again
I didn't use like this, but could then order a new capacitor once i new what was wrong. Not suggesting you try this if you have any sort of warranty, however if you don't and know how to solder the wires back on afterwards it might be worth a shot?
