I think it is best to try a smaller pinion first!
As someone who is getting into racing you will need a selection for different tracks and motors etc. if you gear too high and run too long and your esc/motor gets too hot, it will end in tears.
Just keep checking your motor temp is not too hot to touch and that your car is reaching top speed between 2/3 3/4 of the longest straight.
Generally its safer to be a little undergeared than over, and as someone who sells smaller pinions all the time to people that go brushless i have a fair idea
