Hi Rob, I have also sheared the kit diff screws. I asked Kev at inside line racing about the quality of the screws used and his reply was that TE wasn't sure, and he had snapped some kit ones also. He told me that he was using a shanked screw, but I couldn't find the dimensions of the shank part.
I sourced 10 from a high quality fastener supplier, 12.9 DIN is what to look for. Just do a search for M2x12 cap head screw/ bolt and you will find what you need.
Shim as you would a spur/pinion, with some backlash. I however don't have it fixed in position, I have it so it has some side movement. Has done no harm at all.
