Firstly, lets not bring this thread down to the levels usually associated with other clubs (Phil, lol).
Secondly, it is great that the Ribble Valley RCCC has grown to this massive number on a Friday night. I guess its popularity is partially due to being run on a Friday when we would normally be out spending loads of cash in a pub, then not remembering anything in the morning, or being sat at home with the misses, falling asleep watching some rubbish.
Running 10 buggys in a heat and final is very tight on the small track, but not impossible. The heats can be a bit tough with mixed abilities all trying to get their FTQ for a good final. Getting the right line up for the heats has been discussed in previous threads and any improvements would be welcomed. I think the best is to use the computer to rank the racers by current form, with newbies being on a best judgement by driver and race control.
I think the best answer would be to increase the tracks width through the addition of another roll of carpet but this would raise the following issues;-
1) longer track build time
2) longer packing away time
3) less pit space
4) greater storage space required
Even if the extra roll was to widen the straight on the present layout, providing a good place to overtake, this would be great and would only require 2 extra lengths of track markers.
Any incentives to get more people helping to set-up the track would be great also. The last 3 nights that I have raced there has been only myself and 2 others to lay the carpet, with everyone else just sorting out their own cars and not bothering to ask if help was required. Although, when the carpet is down, its like watching an army of ants build the track.
I think the increase in numbers is a great testiment of the success of the club. It is well run and provides a good race environment for all ages and abilities.
