I would suggest if you are going to try and do most of the shell with the cutter you key it up with some fine scotchbrite or something similar to give the paint a key to stick to. That way you should avoid the troubles I was finding with masking over detailed. My cutter is one of the best things I have ever paid money for in my entire life. Without it this SC shell would have taken 4 times as long if I'd had to cut it all by hand and I think I would have given up.
