Hex sizes will normally be 2mm all round, with 2.5 for the motor screws and 1.5 for the pinion. Kits usually contain cheap allen keys to get you going, but it is better to have proper drivers to make things easier.

The kit shocks are fairly poor. I wouldn't glue the tops on as this will cause future issues when rebuilding them.
I believe ansmann do a cheap set of alloy shocks as an upgrade, don't have the part number to hand. Our you can look around and pick up a second hand set of shocks.

Not sure on the gearing I'm afraid, been while since I ran brushed!
