Sounds to me like it's been too thick, I've seen it very rarely, but it's been when I've absolutely slapped the LM down.
Have used Bob Dively's too and would Definatly prefere the RCS mask. It's easier to use, and A touch tougher, which makes it easier to peel and less fiddly with the very fine details. Love the fact it's tinted too.
4 light coats are plenty btw, and they dry quicker.
