I took the plunge and got some last week the first thing I noticed was how free the car run with them on!
I run at the weekend on very high grip tight,carpet for 6 min races, I thought this was going to be a problem as sometimes have problems lasting 5, but as alot of people were struggling to last 6 mins (we don't usually do 6 min) I was running super cool .
I can't say this is totally down to the 'd' joints but I feel they was a big help
As for clearance I think they give a tiny bit more, not quiet sure how, before the rear shaft was almost on the battery strap but now they is quiet abit of clearance .

Heres a pic of the clerance , i used to run a 1mm washer under the gear hoop to squeeze a little more room for the batterys but have taken it out since i put the 'D's in
