Guys, thanks so much for this info. That is awesome. MDB - its really encouraging to hear someone running the same ESC as me and having the same problem. It might not solve my problem, but it sounds like its worth a try.
I dont have the software update box for the ESC, but think my mate has one so will track it down and give it a try,
How do I:
1 - get all the software version for it (i.e. not just the latest one incase it makes it worse!)
2 - know which version to sue for my setup?
Thanks again guys.
Much much love from your Irish chum.

Hi dude.
Just thought I share your pain as I had a similar probem to you.
I have just delved into 4wd and bought a durango 410r. I invested in a hobbywwing 2.1v 120amp esc which has been used with no issues with other members at our Torch club based at Titchfield.
The set up at the time was hpi pro flux 5.5t with 21t pinion.
Track was high grip astro.
I had thermalling issues after 3mins + (8 laps). After checking the car over the opinion from other seasoned drivers came to the conclusion that itcould only be the esc.
So I removed the hobbywing and replaced it with my trusty speed passion 2.0 gt lpf same as yours and low and behold I ran the full 5 minutes with no thermalling issues whats ever.
I kept my lpf esc in the durango as there was a 6hr endurance race at torch the following weekend and it ran with no problems for the full 6hrs. I ran the car for 8 minutes at time throughout the day. The firmware used at the time was 528mod. This was with a 5.5t with 7 punch with a bit of timing. This firmware has the supercharger settings which was left off.
So my suspicion with your esc is that you need to upgrade the firmware.
As others suggested if the track is small and tight you need to put a smaller pinion on and obviously check that your drivetrain in your buggy is free.
As for the hobbywing esc, I got somebody to install the latest firmware 119mod. Insatlled it back into the durango and ran with no issues at all.
Cheers james
