As a kid in early eighties, we used to race at a place called Taunton Radio Auto Club on a small piece of land behanind Taunton Rugby Club. Us kids with no 1/1th scale cars would pit under the trees for shelter, or when very wet, in the rugby club stands, which we basically sheds!. Used to put wd40 on tyres in vain hope of stopping the mud sticking. We'd race come rain, sleet and snow. 4 hours racing followed by 4 hours stripping the car down, washing, lube and rebuild. Yes, you had to change setup if you had options(as kids we had one motor one set of tyre) but you also changed gearing as all the mud would reduce run times so you had to change the gearing to stop cells dumping!
Would love to see some photos of that track if anyone had any! Think the guy who ran the club was Phil Mason..? Top bloke, very supportive of younger drivers
