Hi,
I always set my slipper a little on the loose side... I find with the advent of brushless and the new cells, a little give from the slipper can improve drive-ability. There's no definative amount of turns out from fully tight as each slipper will always build slightly different.

I usually start on the loose side and then tighten up...
You should be able to turn the spur gear over whilst the slipper assembly is out of the car.
