I did a lot of research before buying my Bose noise-canceling headphones which were consistently the best in tests. I have not regretted it for a minute. I've also lent them to others, some with other N-C designs, and most people don't want to give them back!!
The Bose headphones have a selectable impedance switch, which means you can 'adjust' them to your sound source. They come with a whole range of adaptors which have not failed to get me connected in any aircraft, old or new. The little battery runs for an age, the 'cans' (over ear) are comfortable and the hoop very adjustable. The only reason I know I am wearing them is I can't hear anything else except the sound coming in! If you disconnect the sound source they keep you quiet, and I find them comfortable enough to sleep in a cattle class seat. HTH
