hobbywing 120amp problems
Just moved over to 4wd and got my self a durango. I went and purchased the hobbywing v2.1 120amp from giantcod. Installed in the durango together with gens ace 6.5t motor.
Had punch on 4 and timing on 0 to start with. 21t pinion on a 87t spur as that is what most other people are on.
Had thermal cut off on lap 8 ( 3 and half minutes) on high grip astro.
Checked everything, no binding, drivetrain fine etc. Bodyshell has holes cut out for ventilation.
Themaling all the time so i made the mistake of disabling the thermal protection and low and behold the gens ace lets go.
So next I dropped down to a19t pinion but still thermaling.
Changed sensor lead but still thermaling. Someone mentioned gettingbigger capacitors as it only has 2. but didnt try that.
Had enough of the hobbywing so ripped it out and tried my old speed passion 2.0 lpf which has a lower rating than the hobbywing but can still handle a 5.5t.
And guess what, the car ran fine and lasted the 5 minutes without thermalling.
so what on earth is going on with this hobbywing 120a that is brand new?
Its obviously making the motors very hot. would this be a firmware issue.
Currently it has only the 10 menus unlike my lpf which has 15 with the turbo timing options although i leave that alone.
At our club, there are a few durangos running the hobbywing b ut dont have issues. Although they have updated with speed passion firmwre tith all the turbo options.
Any ideas
James
