to convert the xxx to cr you need front and rear arms, steering rack, rear shock tower, rear hubs. yes the materials are different but i found the older losi graphite is super strong i have never broken my losi in about one and a half seasons. the rest of the stuff is basically the same. the cr has different outdrives they dont have the D shape in them and losi says that makes the diff last longer. i have the older d rings and i never touched my diff ever since i got my car 1.5 seasons ago and it feels exactly the same as the day it was put together.
as for buying the car or not i personally wouldnt get it because it will cost alot to make it a cr and instead of spending all that money you can probably buy a brand new cr. also i wouldnt get a b4.
