Perhaps if you were running in really wet or muddy conditions the holes might be a problem because stuff will get into the motor that shouldn't. In normal conditions it's not really a problem.

I was a bit worried about running a V3 in the back of my B4 but actually it has been no problem at all. I taped the holes up for a while, but when I removed the tape I saw that dirt had got in there anyway and the tape was stopping it from getting out!
