Andy, It's worth checking "which" engines the diesels are. I'ave had a couple of Seat Leons, the 1.9 PD 150bhp engine is good decent, good for 45 odd to the gallon.
I now have a 2.0 PD 170 diesel in a later Leon. There are 2 versions of the 2.0 170 engine, the PD and the CR (common rail). I think the GTTDI used the CR, but not 100% sure. This engine is said to be a little more refined / quieter. It is also said to be good for more mpg.
There is one definitely known issue with the PD 170's, and that's that they are fitted with a DPF - Diesel Particulate filter. So far, mine has been fine, however, there are a lot of stories of people that have issues with DPF. Basically, when it goes, it's gonna cost you a good wedge. I don't know if the CR has this or not. Chipping this engine makes the DPF a bigger issue, to the point that a lot of the tuners will refuse to do this engine. I believe Revo killed their test car's DPF within days!!
