I was lucky that when I was younger and racing, my dad backed me up and was my mechanic untill such times I was competent to do it on my own. Now I do the same with my own boy and we really enjoy the racing and spending time together at the track. Just keep plodding away and he might just come round 1 day lol. At least you're spending your money doing a hobby you enjoy, dad needs to realise you could be out on the streets doing worse things.
