In theory a 2.4 GHz antenna should point straight up. (Same goes for 2.4 GHz transmitter antennas that should either be directed straight up - or down for optimal range.)
Most receivers use a coaxial antenna (the tip appears to have less insulation) and that is the active part of such an antenna. As long as that part of the antenna points straight up you should be safe. For instance in my 2WD I did not even have to make a hole in my body, there was enough room beneath it.
