TBH I don't think it is just the track type, if you look at how much club racing and practice the US drivers do before a main event, More than a few times you will read that they will club race 3 to 4 times a week before the event, you just can't do that here, you could do a sunday meet then poss one mid week, but how far would you be traveling? before 8th worlds I have heard of pavidis tebo etc being at the track 8+ hours a day
As for surface, we could run more dirt in the uk,we used to,we are not the only ones that get rain, world japan, 8th world in us few year ago WET! dirt tracks are quite easy to maintain,BUT you do need another option if very wet.
