I ran mine dry, as no grease was called for in the manual, whilst it's always good to lubricate moving parts, with the environment our cars operate in, it doesn't always seem best to do so due to contamination etc. But the cvd's on the centre shafts do get extremely hot if run dry. So, that's not good either. The lesser of the evils is to put some grease on.

The heat is unlikely to be noticed, unless you happen to touch the cvd straight after a race.
