Any ideas on how to calm it down without losing speed

Assuming the car is built well and you have the right tyres for the track (in good condition), the answer is to either get a softer motor (13.5 for example) or just be gentler with your throttle control (the best way to become a good driver in the long run).

Putting too many artificial transmitter restrictions on the car will just mask the problems rather than help you to solve them. So leave the end-points at 100% so you can use all the power when you need it, and only use up to 10% of exponential.

To the original poster - my advice would be to buy new until you are well experienced with the gear. I see a lot of newcomers struggling with worn-out or faulty second-hand gear because they don't know what the stuff should be like.
