Most people just turn teh batt strap upside down and if needed add a couple of milimeters of spacers under the posts.

Tighten the nut to the point the slipper only slips for the first 2 feet or so from a standing start.

Modern buggies have become smaller as the race quality electronics have shrunk, the main reason is to try and get the major masses (motor & battery) where they give the best balance. That said I've never had any trouble getting the electronics into any Kyosho buggy.
