It's fine outdoors but will need a couple of things like alloy front pin brace and front tower mount to take some real abuse. It handles great on rough stuff - as long as it's setup properly, spares are also available trackside where I've raced (nationals and regionals)
I am racing the 501X myself at the moment - spares are indeed hard to come by.. the car is popular like I'd imagined but not at the top level since there are no sponsored drivers. You'd see more at club level than National level - even with 10 guys turning up for 4wd at a regional you had more 501Xs than 120 4wd racers at a National! Parts aren't easy to come by over here, no.
