For those who say, "Aero is no big deal," you've just given the answer. In windy conditions, you must run less Gurney. And in all conditions, the bigger the Gurney, the less steering -- you are tilting the car backwards and throwing more weight on the rear, even at our (relatively) low speeds.
On the other hand, too much traction is rarely the issue. Thus, instead of lowering the rear traction to balance the car, we raise the front traction with an air dam or wing.
I don't see the F1 boys trying to lower the aero effects...
