I've done a lot with both mid and rear, on grass and astro.

They drive differently as you'd expect, rear motor has more understeer, turns in slower, picks up more traction on exit but also pushes more. Mid turns faster, much keener into a corner and likes to be driven agressively. On the stopwatch mid is faster.

The mid definitely needs more set up work and is more sensitive but I have no problems with traction with the mid once the set-up is right.

Overall the mid suits me much better, I like a pointy car and tend to be smooth and precise with the steering. Rear motor, like the B4, always feels a bit laboured and you have to wait for it to do it's thing and doesn't like to be hurried.

Overall the 22 can do everything you want, from high grip astro, meduim grass with mid in different weight guises to wet grass and dirt with a rear motor.
