I had Tamiya connectors on my Mardave and as a 'newbie' to RC thought they must be ok as it comes with them.
Mine never melted but I got bad connections and I would lose power. I changed to 4mm plugs got them on ebay quite cheap think it was 20 pairs for £7.50
