I did that method of construction many years ago
And made a 4wd that was 7.5cm thin chassis wise way before the Durango prototypes
It was carbon side plates forming transmissionsides and the chassis supports
It had a centred servo at the front with cells in the middle and centred motor.
It ran xxx4 diffs and belt with a home made clutch and layshaft.
Basically it ran a xxx4 transmission upside down so it ran over the electrics!
It went well lol it was an early proto and did a good job of trailing that layout.
