I hold an HNC in electronic engineering, but am a bit rusty. This problem however is pretty basic; It sounds very much like a leak to earth which is tripping your rcd (circuit breaker ). This could be caused by broken insulation as indicated above. Either way, there is a residual current to earth, or maybe even an high current leak. You'd need at least a multimeter to do simple fault finding.
Keep it switched off and seek professional help buddy.
