Why it would require this I don't know and it probably doesn't need it to be accurate to operate. I am guessing it will give you a mph converetion based on gearing and motor.

It requests tire diameter, gear ratio and various other things. When the programmer is plugged into the esc is shows average speed, maximum speed, average speed, temperature, and various other things. It really is the business. Much better than anything else in its price group in my opinion.
