Ok, gone back to basic reset and selected everything brake to the max. As soon as you take your finger off the throttle the wheels stop and the beast grinds to a quick halt.
Now, this proves it works. The car also needs more effort to be pushed - you can feel the force of the motor.
However, pulling back the stick still does nothing. So the ESC is working but maybe not set up to the handset correctly
