On the off chance that you haven't tried this yet. Set everything up, turn it on, turn on your transmitter and then take 5 steps back with the transmitter.
My Spektrum receivers do not like having the transmitter anything closer than about 3 feet.
If this works you are in for a big "DOH!" moment
