if there was only one motor r&d would grind to a halt, why bother being faster when everyone has to buy your motors anyway and even if they did get faster, everyone would go faster by just as much as you.
Control tyres work pretty well but when was the last time we saw anything new on the tyre front widely used? I think schumacher mini spikes were control tyres when i left rc over 2 years ago
