Thanks again for all your replies. The only bit thats not the same is the speed controller. So this afternoon I did some intensive testing. I am now almost 100% sure its the speed controller. What I did was:
Connect an external battery pack to the receiver. Only connect the steering servo to the receiver. Do a range test. No problems what so ever.
Now connect the speed controller to the receiver. Obviously without the red wire that goes to the receiver. Do a range test again. Major problems immediately. Can't get 20 feet away from the car and it goes mental.
Now I know its the speed controller. But this is a new speed controller from Mtroniks with a new motor. Why is it doing this? Could it be the capasitor?
I'll try and contact Mtroniks tomorrow and see what they say.

I'll put some more pics up when I've got it sorted. It is a really nice bit of kit. The brushless conversion stuff and a few other bits is all machined aluminium. Very well build.
