It is the same as gearing. If you under gear then the motor is working too much and if you over gear the speedo works too much.
You have to get it correct for your track.
If it is too hot then go up a few gears.

Cheers Stu - It was not running too hot yesterday, but that was on one of the UK's largest carpet tracks.
I will try going up to a 22T this friday. I have also ordered one of the new motor mounts with the heatsink so hopefully that will help.
